Daniel Webster visited Buffalo during his 1833 tour of the western states, arriving at the Eagle Tavern on Friday evening, May 31. He declined an invitation to a public dinner, but he did meet with many of Buffalo's prominent citizens. He also spoke at the christening of a steamer built at Black Rock, named "Daniel Webster" in his honor.
