The right door is decorated with a female figure (representing Ethnology) holding a skull and Indian implements of peace and war. The left door is decorated with a female figure (representing History) shading her eyes as if peering into the future seeking knowledge. A lamp in her right hand represents the search for knowledge in the past. The transom appears supported by one female figure holding a globe (representing Science) and another female figure holding a palette and brush (representing Art). The door panels below the figures are inset with plaques, which read: "These Gates the Gift of Andrew Langdon to the Buffalo Historical Society. A.D., M.C.M."
