"Perceiving Buffalo"
An exhibition of local contemporary art showcasing works by Austics Services Inc. artists.
Presented by the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society, this show opens in BECHS’ second-floor Community Gallery on Thursday, July 1, 2010, and will run through Sunday August 22, 2010. There will be a free celebratory reception on Thursday, July 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Historical Society. The exhibit and the reception are both open to the public. Details. |

Pan-American Walking Tour Sunday August 1
Tours begin at 12:30 p.m. at the History Museum, 25 Nottingham Court at Elmwood Avenue.
The popular docent-led tour - an easy one and a half hour walk - features historical spots and notable happenings from the 1901 Pan-American Exposition. Highlights include the point where the 375 foot Electric Tower once stood, exploring the location where a 12,000-seat stadium held mock battles, and the opportunity to stand where McKinley was shot by a young anarchist.
The tour cost is $10 per person and includes a souvenir guide map. Reservations are requested; each tour is limited to 20 people. Tours are weather permitting with no rain date. To reserve a spot or for more information, call 873-9644 x 301, email education@bechs.org. |

Party on the Portico
Scheduled performers: The Skiffle Minstrels (meant-for-dancing swing, old-school
country-western, Cajun/Zydeco)
Guests enjoy live music, cash bar (wine/beer), appetizers, free 15-minute mini-tours of the History Museum, and great views of Mirror Lake, Delaware Park and the Japanese Garden from the steps of the iconic museum.
Admission for each Party on the Portico event is $10 for the general public and $5 for Historical Society members. The series runs rain or shine and is exclusively for guests ages 21 and over.

“’The Keystone of the Arch of the Plan’: Edward H. Bennett's ‘Buffalo of Tomorrow’ and John J. Wade's ‘Buffalo City Hall’”
Please join us for an illustrated talk in the museum's auditorium by Jennifer Walkowski. Walkowski is Acting President of the Louise Bethune Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians. In addition, she is Architectural Historian for Clinton Brown Company Architecture in Buffalo, specializing in historic places. Walkowski is the author of "Americanesque: Exploring Modern Civic Identity at Buffalo City Hall," and received her Masters with High Honors from the University of Virginia.
